Trapped and Abandoned: Dog Rescued After Jug Gets Stuck on His Head
A dog found in south Houston late Monday afternoon with a plastic jug stuck on his head is now safely in the care of the Houston SPCA after a cruelty report was filed with the animal rescue and protection organization. The jug, believed to be part of an automatic pet feeder, had lodged around the dog’s neck as he likely attempted to reach food. While the top of the jug was open, allowing for limited air, the dog could not access food or water for an extended period.

Rehabilitated Bald Eagle Takes Flight Once Again
A majestic bald eagle recently rehabilitated at the Houston SPCA’s Wildlife Center was successfully released back into the wild today — a triumphant return to the skies after a dramatic rescue and recovery. In late March, the eagle was discovered in distress, trapped in chest-high water in the Neches River. A fishhook was lodged in the muscle of one wing, rendering him unable to fly and dangerously exposed.

Bald Eagle Recovering After Entanglement in Fishing Line and Trapped in Neches River
A bald eagle, estimated to be more than 4-years-old, is recovering at the Houston SPCA’s Wildlife Center after being rescued from the Neches River in late March. The eagle’s wing was caught by a fishhook, attached to some fishing line hanging from a nearby tree. The entanglement left the national bird trapped in chest-high water and unable to fly to safety.

The Houston SPCA and Harris County Constable Precinct 1 are investigating two separate cases of animal cruelty after two dogs died from heat distress late yesterday evening in Northwest Houston and the other in Southeast Houston after they were both left outside in the sweltering heat with no access to water, food or shade. One of the dog’s body temperatures registered over 104 degrees at the scene.

The Houston SPCA and Harris County Constable Precinct 1 seized a German shepherd on Wednesday in a shocking case of physical abuse. Four dogs in North Houston near Airline Drive were rescued after the owner was caught on video strangling the helpless shepherd dog by the neck repeatedly. The Houston SPCA and Harris County Constable Precinct 1 also rescued a shepherd mix on May 11 from a Southeast Houston apartment complex after two videos caught the suspect repeatedly beating the dog.
