Help Animals in Need by Volunteering Your Time

(January 24, 2022)

Houston SPCA relies on donations to fulfill our mission, but that isn’t the only way you can help animals in need. Our campus is vast, and we rely on volunteers to help us run the show! Volunteering your time is a wonderful way to get up close and personal with our animals and assist our staff.

Donate Your Time by Dog Walking

While our dogs wait patiently for their families to come take them home, they require some exercise and play time.

Volunteering your time with small and/or large dogs is a great way to get them some much-needed enrichment as well as help you get in some exercise, too!

Are you a runner? Take some of our high-energy dogs out for a jog with you and clock those steps!

Volunteer in Our Cattery

Our feline friends stay in cat condos while at the Houston SPCA. They are able to be viewed by adopters at all times, and therefore need to be as clean as possible throughout the day!

Plus, you can spend your free time giving an extra snuggle or scratch to a kitty who wants some love and attention!

Get Creative with Pet Photography

Our available pets page is often the first impression our pets make on potential adopters. We have a dedicated team of volunteer photographers who visit our campus each week to make sure as many of our cats and dogs as possible have a profile photo to make an adopter fall in love!

Beginner up to professional level photographers are all welcome. Houston SPCA has a studio available for use, as well as outdoor play yards depending on what lighting conditions the photographer prefers. Pets can even be photographed right in their kennel, as long as a nice new headshot is captured!

What are the requirements?

All potential volunteers must be at least 16 years old at the time of application and commit to 8 hours per month for at least six months.

Photography volunteers are asked to sign up for a weekly slot on the same day each week.

Sign up to become a volunteer today! Complete your background check and attend orientation, then you’re ready to jump in!
