(January 19, 2022)
The Houston SPCA received a report of an abandoned Husky at an elementary school. When our cruelty investigator arrived, they found her chained to the playground equipment.
The dog, now named Sierra, was spayed, vaccinated, and evaluated by our veterinary team before being adopted to a loving new home.
Animal abandonment can result in a wide array of behavioral and healthy problems depending on how long they’re alone. Severe cases not reported in time can result in death. Abandonment can cause a lack of proper socialization and overall poor health care, including malnutrition to the point of starvation and death. The animal is put at risk in these kinds of situations, but humans can be too as the pet can become fearful. Without socialization and human interaction, an animals’ health and temperament can severely decline.
Houston SPCA has seen an increase of animal abandonments and cruelty reports since 2020. Be vigilant and aware of animals being dumped or left behind and report as soon as possible.
Animal abandonment is animal cruelty and a crime, please don’t wait to report cruelty to the Houston SPCA. Call 713-869-7722 or file a report online.
