Wildlife Emergency Response

The Houston SPCA’s Wildlife Center of Texas is the go-to organization for wildlife response whenever disaster strikes the Gulf Coast.

Wildlife Response and Relief

Our highly trained and experienced personnel are quick to respond to any man-made or natural disasters such as hurricanes and oil-spills. Our new state-of-the-art facility and large volunteer base allow the center to handle a large influx of patients during an emergency or natural disaster. The management team is OSHA-certified, HAZWOPER-trained, TWIC-certified and ICS-trained.

The following oil spill response equipment is available:

A 48-foot, custom-built, two-section enclosed top trailer with a 10,000-watt generator, three air conditioning units and a built-in water tank and fueling station to assist with collection, triage, and transport

A 38-foot air-conditioned bus equipped with 24 stainless steel cages and two surgery tables with anesthesia machines that can assist with triage and transport of oiled animals

3,000 crates and kennels, 44 cases of towels, trash bags, and feeding bowls, etc.

Response equipment is stored in 8 “push pact” containers that can be trucked or airlifted anywhere for oiled wildlife response

The Houston SPCA’s Wildlife Center of Texas is located in Houston and can accommodate well over 1,000 adult shorebirds
