Emaciated Dog at Rescue Site

(June 18, 2024)

A severely emaciated dog and her four puppies were rescued from an East Houston property near the 10,000 block of Clear Lake Road in Highlands, TX. Officials arrived on the scene to find the animals had no access to food or water and were living in a yard full of debris. Without water in the Texas heat or any nutrition, the mother could barely stand on her own, and one of her four puppies was in severe distress.

The owner surrendered all the animals as we worked with our law enforcement partners, and our Animal Cruelty Investigation team brought them to the Houston SPCA campus for medical care. Our team handles nearly 8,000 abuse and neglect cases annually across nine different counties, including Harris County. Trained to analyze situations from neglect and abandonment to physical abuse, our team helps educate pet owners on animal welfare laws, rescues animals, and advocates for their wellbeing. Thanks to Houston SPCA teams, animals like these puppies and their mother have the opportunity for a fresh start in a healthy, happy home.
