Caught on Camera: Yorkie Suffers Broken Neck After He’s Thrown Down Stairwell

(April 18, 2024)

The Houston SPCA and Harris County Constable Precinct 1 responded to a distressing incident this morning, rescuing an eight-year-old Yorkshire terrier. This action was prompted by video evidence revealing a horrifying act of animal cruelty: a dog being thrown down a flight of stairs while confined in a wire kennel at an apartment complex near the 2200 block of W. Orem and Alameda in southeast Houston.

The disturbing footage, captured on a camera phone and submitted with a cruelty report to the Houston SPCA, includes audible abusive language preceding the kennel, with the eight-pound Yorkie inside, being tossed from the second floor, striking the lower platform before tumbling to the ground. Heartbreakingly, cries from the dog are heard following the final impact.

Officials disclosed that the owner took the dog to a local veterinarian but, tragically, had to be humanely euthanized due to a broken neck sustained during the incident. The Houston SPCA is currently overseeing a necropsy to determine the exact cause of death. Another dog found in the apartment was promptly removed and is now under the care of the Houston SPCA.

Due to the graphic nature of the video, viewer discretion is advised. The Houston SPCA emphasizes the importance of sharing such cases to raise awareness about the critical impact of reporting animal cruelty and saving lives. The investigation into this distressing incident is ongoing.
