Houston SPCA cruelty investigators and Harris County Constable Precinct 1 headed to Fifth Ward last Friday to rescue 9 French bulldogs living in horrific conditions. Upon inspection, investigators discovered that all nine dogs were suffering from various medical issues, including sarcoptic mange, a highly contagious disease to both dogs and humans. Officials at the scene noted that outside and inside kennels were covered in dirt, debris, and garbage. All dogs were brought back to the Houston SPCA, where after further exception, the veterinary team notified officials that all dogs were also suffering from heartworm in addition to the canine mange. For rehabilitation, the dogs were taken to Catie’s Foster Fam, a local rescue and partner of the Houston SPCA.
The 9 dogs received treatment at the Houston SPCA.
The Houston SPCA currently has more than 1,400 animals in their care as more continue to come into their care through their 24-hour rescue ambulance and animal cruelty investigations that cover nine, which includes Harris County.
