Mother Dog and Pup Rescued From Pit

Our Animal Rescue Ambulance team and Cruelty Investigators recently teamed up to rescue a mother dog and her 8-week-old puppy who were trapped in a pit in northwest Houston.

While our Animal Cruelty Investigators focus on animals who have been abused or neglected, our Animal Rescue Ambulance team responds to animals in immediate danger or who are trapped and in need of urgent medical attention. In this case, both teams worked together to save these two helpless creatures.

Our call center received a report about two dogs who appeared injured and abandoned, trapped in a 4-foot pit. Our cruelty and rescue teams were quickly dispatched to rescue these animals.

When they arrived, they discovered a mixed Shepherd dog and her puppy trapped in a retention pond. Surrounded by thick brush, the par was isolated from any help. The mother dog, who was severely emaciated with a fractured femur, could barely stand but was using all her strength to protect her puppy. In fact, despite their desperate situation, the puppy was at a healthy weight, a testament to the mother’s immense sacrifice and love in order to give her puppy everything she could to survive. The steep 4-foot climb to escape the pit was impossible in their condition, especially the mother dog with a broken femur.

Our Animal Cruelty Investigator and Emergency Veterinary Medical Technician arrived on the scene. With careful coordination and determination, they lifted the injured mother and her puppy to safety. After trekking through the brush with both animals in tow, they rushed them to our medical hospital for examination and treatment.

We are incredibly grateful for the dedication and skill of our response teams. Thanks to the support and resources we receive, our teams can continue serving justice, saving lives, and making a difference. We do everything we can to ensure that every trapped and hopeless animal finds safety and shelter.
