This morning, the Houston SPCA responded to an urgent request from the City of Galveston to assist in the rescue of 71 dogs, cats, and puppies found living in horrific conditions inside an old school bus and a small van at Galveston Island State Park.
The scene was heartbreaking—urine and feces covered the bus floor, and most of the animals were emaciated, their fur soaked in waste. Packed into small wire kennels, they had no food or water and were left to suffer in extreme confinement.
Now, 22 of these animals—six puppies, 13 dogs, and three cats—have been transported to the Houston SPCA for emergency medical care, while the remaining dogs will be taken to Galveston Island Humane Society. Our Chief Veterinarian, Dr. Roberta Westbrook, along with Texas A&M veterinary students, will conduct cruelty exams on their behalf to assess their condition.
Their journey to recovery starts today, but we can’t do it alone. Your support provides critical medical treatment, safe shelter, and a second chance at life.
If you ever suspect animal cruelty, report it immediately to 713-869-7722. Their lives depend on it.
